120 years of the Berlin Metro

120 years of the Berlin Metro

15 Февраля 2022 February 15 marks the 120th anniversary of one of the oldest subways in Europe

The Berlin Underground is one of the oldest in the world. For 120 years it has survived the Nazis, the use as a bomb shelter during World War II and the cutting of the network after the construction of the Berlin Wall. Together with the city train, the Berlin Metro today forms the basis of public transport in the German capital – one of the most convenient transport systems in the world.

On February 15, 1902, the first train passed along the first line connecting the Stralauer Tor and the Zoological Garden, with a small branch to Potsdamer Platz (today it is part of the U1 line – the oldest operating section of the Berlin Metro). Kaiser Wilhelm II took the place of honor in the carriage of the first train. And three days later, the subway opened for ordinary passengers.

Dear employees of the Berlin Metro, residents and guests of the city! Congratulations on the 120th anniversary of the opening of the metro. We wish you fruitful and trouble-free work. Be healthy, take care of yourself and your loved ones!

Sincerely, the General Director of LLC "Termotron-Zavod" A.G. Abushenko
